Integrating GPS Technology

Abstract
This paper focuses on the integration of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) technology into an enterprise. Businesses can utilize Geographical Fencing (GeoFence) to increase efficiency and reduce costs by as much as 73%. Some GPS tracking services provides a breadcrumb‐like path through time and space along with additional information regarding the tracked asset for as long as 3 months. Many mobile devices have a GPS embedded in them. In the transportation industry, GPS systems provide two‐way communications between drivers and dispatchers. This paper briefly overviews the integration of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) into various organizations as well as its benefits to the daily business of each enterprise. It will explore the limitations of GPS technology as a whole as well as its potential growth in everyday business. It will outline the potential to abuse GPS technology as it may be used to invade privacy and track personal information of individuals who use devices which utilize GPS technology. This paper will show by the way of examples the importance of integration of GPS technology into an enterprise as well as outlining some flaws which can be compensated by complementing GPS with some legacy technology. This paper further concludes that even with its limitations, GPS is the best form of asset tracking for any enterprise.
